Congratulations on your decision to try yoga!
Yoga is a restorative and rejuvenating practice that can help reduce stress and increase flexibility - both physically and mentally. Because a yoga studio can be such a different environment, below are a couple of helpful hints to make your experience more enjoyable from the very start.
Helpful tips for your first class:
Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before class. Classes begin and end at the posted time on the schedule out of respect for the teacher and as well as the other students. The studio doors are locked during class time as a precaution. Late arrivals will not be permitted to enter.
Bring a yoga mat.
You are welcome to bring water into the practice space in a container with a lid.
Dress in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Practice is done without shoes or socks.
There are cubbies in the reception area of the studio for your personal belongings and shoes. Please remove shoes before entering the practice space.
Cell phones are prohibited in the practice space.
Avoid eating or drinking anything but water an hour before class.
The practice space is sacred and many people choose to meditate before class; please honor the silence or speak quietly in the space.
Please let the instructor know if there are any physical challenges that may influence your practice.
Stay until the end of class. Yoga is a holistic practice. Exercise increases heart rate and blood pressure, and brings blood flow away from organs to skeletal muscles. Relaxation brings heart rate and blood pressure back to normal and returns blood flow to the organs. Final relaxation and integration bring deep healing, balance and equilibrium.
Remember, there is no competition or judgment in Yoga, and your practice changes from day to day.
Refrain from perfumes or essential oils, as others may have allergies.
Frequently Asked Questions for New Students
Is there a minimum age for your classes?
While we love yogis of ALL ages, we respectfully request that children who wish to attend our classes be at least twelve (12) years of age. We recognize that every child is unique with regard to their experience and attention span, and have established this age limit out of respect for other students who may be in attendance.
I’ve never done yoga before, where should I start?
We recommend a gentle or a Hatha I class. In these classes, you will get the most instruction and it will help create a solid foundation for other classes. The best way to start is with our $45 two-week trial membership.
Do I need to register for beginner classes?
Yes. We are not accepting walk-in students, as class capacity is limited. Please register for any class you wish to attend. :)
Do I need to arrive early?
Yes. Plan to arrive at least 15m prior to the start of class. This will allow us to show you around the studio and get you settled. Classes begin (and end) promptly at the posted class times, and late entrance is not permitted out of respect for the teacher and the other students. The door will be locked during class times for the safety and security of the students and teacher.
What can I expect in my yoga class?
Each class and teacher is different. If you start in a gentle or Hatha I class (as recommended if you’re new to yoga) you will begin by either sitting or lying on your yoga mat. The instructor will begin by centering the class with the focus on the breath (pranayama). Next, you will do gentle warm ups, followed by the postures of yoga (asanas), progressive muscle relaxation, and deep relaxation to conclude the class. For more details on each class type please visit our Book A Class page.
What are the class fees?
